The Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy launched the Professional Certificate in Tailings Management in 2020. The online, interactive course consists of 6 modules. I was a facilitator for Module 6, Social, Environmental and Economic Considerations in Tailings Management, with Professor David Williams and Dr. Deanna Kemp. Professor David Brereton and Karen Chovan contributed to content and formal assessment materials and Dr. Peter Chapman helped facilitate the online chat during module presentation. The course is one piece of the effort by professional societies within the Global Mineral Professionals Alliance (GMPA) to help manage tailings risks and improve practice globally.
